Borrowing Policies

To checkout items from the SAU library;

  • SAU students, staff, and faculty need a valid SAU-issued ID.
  • Public patrons must present a valid library card issued by an Iowa public library or a valid Iowa drivers license.​​
    • ​​An "Open Access" borrower's card will then be issued. It is renewable every 30 days with residence verification.

Note: Items either in process or not fully cataloged are unavailable for general use. Faculty may arrange to use these items by contacting a reference librarian, Assistant Director, or the Director.

**Faculty and staff may borrow reference items and older periodicals for a limited time. Such borrowing needs to be arranged with a reference librarian or a circulation supervisor.

Overdue Notices

  • Overdue notices and follow-up notices are sent as prescribed by our circulation operation, up to and including pursuing legal remedy through the Iowa law governing concealed library materials (see 714.5 and 808.12 in Code of Iowa.)
